1080p vs 1440p vs 4k: How many pixel do you need? Video editors and Gamers

Is 4k really needed and does refresh time and Hz really matter what about ips, read on the find out.

Video Editing

4K is very useful for video editing and you're Hz will be fine as long as you're not gaming with it.

Video Editors that use the mac pro will be able to use 4K (3840x2160) but only at 30hz if using a 4096x2160 monitor you will only be able to use it a 24hz.This is the same for Hackintosh and PC users. (recommended for 4k a dual Nvidia GTX 760 in sli or above).1440p will be the sweet spot for video editors and gamers as you can get good Hz.

Gamers

4k is possibly the worst option for gamers and your Hz rate will be very low.For gamers your minimum Hz rate should be 60 Hz.1600p is quite a good option if your budget is high and 60hz is good enough where as 1080p has less pixels but some can have 120hz and is a lot less GPU intensive.

Your refresh time should be under 7ms, recommended 2ms and an average of 5ms.
(recommended 1440p max settings a AMD R9 290 or a Nvidia GeForce GTX 760 ).IPS is also recommended you have 2 or more monitors it quite rare to find a 1440p monitor or above without IPS.

Internet Browsers and Movie watchers

4k is good for Movie watchers for obvious reasons and 1080p will be just fine for anything else.

(recommended GTX 5xx or more)
